Bones
Bones provide us with our structure and play a vital role in producing blood cells. With bones there is more than to consider than the obvious breaks resulting from a fall or impact. Bones may also develop stress fractures caused by repetitive loads, which left untreated can develop into a full fracture. Bones may also be irritated by tendons at their attachment that are under consistent loads.
Bursa
A Bursa is a fluid filled sack that acts as a cushion around our main joints to prevent excessive movement and injury. However with misalignment in the joint the bursa can be become inflamed, swollen or torn as a result of excessive pressures or striking. This may also cause thickening of the Bursa wall.
Cartilage
Cartilage is the smooth durable coating on the end part of the bones which slide against each other in the joint to allow movement with minimal friction. In the main joints synovial fluid is also produced as a lubricant. Cartilage is the main area affected by osteoarthritis. When it becomes inflamed through infection or imbalance it can degenerate very quickly. It has been thought for years that you could not regrow cartilage because of poor blood supply, there are now however new surgical procedures available, as well as non surgical natural solutions being encouraged.
These are getting better results for many common joint problems.
Fascia
Fascia is a strong connective tissue, that coats and supports all of our muscles and muscle groups. The fascia goes in all directions throughout the body. With limited use or movement over a period time, either through inactivity or injury, the fascia can tighten or bind up; preventing movement and increasing stress on joints, this may cause postural changes over time.
Stretching and exercise can help, or for trouble spots, there are particular methods for natural release that can be applied.
Headache
There are two types of headaches. Migraine and tension headaches are often caused by restriction in the neck reducing movement and blood flow to the head. Secondary headaches are from an existing condition that may be more sinister in nature, requiring further investigation by a GP.
Jaw
The jaw is often referred to as (TMJ) Temperomandibular joint. There are often problems with the jaw that affect our ears, sinuses and neck and vice versa. If our posture changes, taking our head forward causing us to in effect, to tilt our head up, to look forward.
Muscles
Muscle fibres are uniform in directional makeup, so when muscle cells receive a signal from the brain, they contract in the same direction, shortening the muscle which is attached at both ends, usually, to two different bones providing them with movement. By having opposing muscles one can be stretched to restore its length when the other is contracted. Injured muscles are common, a tear, bruising or shortened and choked muscles may cause pain in joints.
When a muscle is bruised or tears, it becomes inflamed as the healing process begins with an increase of blood to the affected area, causing swelling and discolouration. This is why it is recommended immediately after an injury to apply the RICE process. Rest Ice Compression and Elevation.
Musculoskeletal disorders
Musculoskeletal disorders or MSDs, are injuries and disorders that effect the human body’s movement or musculoskeletal system (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, ect.)
Nerves
Nerves are the electrical pathways that link the brain to the whole of the body. Our nerves can be injured easily; by being hit, having pressure applied due to tunnel restriction or beeing pulled with sharp movement.
